Trump Plans to Disband the U.S. Department of Education

Reports indicate that President Donald Trump is set to initiate the process of disbanding the U.S. Department of Education this Thursday. Several media outlets have revealed that the official announcement will take place during a ceremony at the White House, which is expected to be attended by various Republican governors.

The Department, currently led by Linda McMahon, a close ally of Trump, is reportedly continuing to implement significant staffing cuts and budget reductions as directed by the President and his advisor, Elon Musk. Their agenda aims to considerably reduce the budgets and workforce of federal agencies. Just last week, the Department of Education announced plans to lay off nearly half of its employees.

Throughout his campaign, Trump pledged to abolish the Department of Education if he were elected. His strategy involves decentralizing education and reallocating the authority of the department to individual states. Traditionally, the federal government has had a limited role in education, with only about 13% of funding for elementary and secondary schools coming from federal sources. The remaining funds are primarily sourced from state and local governments. However, federal support remains crucial for underfunded schools and students with special needs.
