A serious incident occurred on the Inntalautobahn (A12) near Völs in the Innsbruck-Land district, when a tire detached from a trailer and struck a taxi, resulting in injuries to three individuals. The event unfolded on Friday afternoon, around 1:15 PM, when the tire, whose detachment was attributed to unknown causes, was ejected from the trailer of a 31-year-old driver from Italy who was traveling towards Salzburg.

The loose tire crossed over to the opposite lane, colliding with a truck before being propelled back onto the eastbound side of the highway. It then hit a taxi that was transporting five passengers. The impact was severe enough to shatter the vehicle's windshield and penetrate into the cabin, causing significant injuries to the taxi driver, aged 57, and his front-seat passenger, who both sustained injuries to their head and chest areas. Additionally, another passenger incurred minor facial injuries.

Emergency medical personnel promptly arrived at the scene to provide first aid to the injured parties. All three individuals were subsequently transported to a hospital for further evaluation and treatment of their injuries.

The accident led to the temporary closure of the overtaking lane on the A12 near Völs for approximately one hour as authorities managed the situation and ensured the safety of other motorists.
