A 13-year-old boy was involved in a serious traffic accident in Vienna's Brigittenau district after he stole a vehicle and attempted to evade police on Saturday. Law enforcement officials reported that officers noticed a car being driven by what appeared to be a young driver during their patrol.
When the officers attempted to stop the vehicle for a routine check, the teenager fled the scene, committing several traffic violations in the process. He sped through the area at over 110 km/h and drove directly towards a police patrol car, forcing it to swerve to avoid a collision.
Eventually, the young driver lost control of the stolen vehicle on Nordbahnstraße. The car collided with three parked vehicles, flipped over, and came to rest on its roof. Out of the five occupants in the car, three fled on foot in unknown directions. Two 13-year-old passengers, both identified as Syrian nationals, remained at the scene and sustained injuries. They were treated by emergency medical services and transported to a hospital.
Subsequent investigations revealed that the stolen vehicle and its license plates had been taken just hours earlier during a break-in at an auto repair shop located in Liesing. The unidentified driver now faces charges for negligent bodily harm, serious coercion, resisting state authority, and endangering public safety.
