In a significant initiative aimed at enhancing career opportunities in the health sector, students from the 4th grade of the Guntramsdorf Middle School visited the Health and Nursing School in Baden. This visit was part of a collaborative project between the Lower Austria State Health Agency (NÖ LGA) and the Education Directorate, which has been ongoing since 2021 across seven middle schools in Lower Austria.

The primary objective of this initiative is to provide young people with engaging insights into various health professions, including roles in nursing assistance, nursing care, and medical assistance. During their visit, students participated in practical exercises designed to showcase the diverse nature of nursing careers.

Officials emphasized the importance of inspiring the next generation to consider careers in healthcare. The project aims to demonstrate how rewarding and impactful these professions can be. It highlights the multifaceted nature of health and nursing roles, which not only require technical skills but also a genuine commitment to improving the lives of patients and community members.

Students engaged in hands-on activities, including a simulated blood draw on a practice arm, providing them with a firsthand experience of the practical training that students undergo at the GuKPS Baden. This experiential learning approach aims to deepen their understanding of the nursing profession and its vital contribution to society.

The Education Director noted that this program not only gives students valuable practical insights but also fosters an interest in pursuing careers in the health and nursing sectors. The aim is to provide a comprehensive overview of various health professions, encouraging students to explore their future career options.

Since its inception, the program has been implemented in seven middle schools across Lower Austria, including locations such as Retz, Traismauer, and Wiener Neustadt, focusing on health and social topics. The curriculum has been developed in partnership between the NÖ LGA and the Education Directorate, integrating age-appropriate content with practical exercises tailored for each school year.

For instance, first-year students receive three lessons focused on nutrition conducted by a dietitian, while second-year students engage in three lessons on physical activity led by a physiotherapist. By the third year, students are introduced to various health careers, culminating in a concentrated focus on nursing professions in their fourth year.

In summary, the collaboration between the NÖ LGA and the Education Directorate underscores a commitment to preparing young people for future careers in healthcare, equipping them with the necessary knowledge and skills to thrive in a rapidly evolving field.
