Mon 24th Mar, 2025

A rare early-season hailstorm struck the Krems district on Sunday afternoon, affecting several communities, with Langenlois experiencing the most significant impact. Within minutes, road conditions in the area shifted dramatically, resembling winter, as hailstones the size of marbles fell, creating hazardous icy patches.

The local fire department reported that the B218 roadway between Gneixendorf and Langenlois, as well as the B37 near Stratzing, were particularly hard-hit. The accumulation of hail posed a serious risk for drivers, leading to concerns about road safety. Emergency services were promptly dispatched to manage the situation and assist affected residents.

This unusual weather event caught many by surprise, as hailstorms of this intensity are not typical for this time of year. Meteorologists noted that such early occurrences of hail can disrupt local agriculture, potentially damaging crops that are not yet fully established. Farmers in the region are advised to assess their fields for any hail-related damage and take necessary precautions.

The community has rallied together to support those impacted by the storm, with local organizations mobilizing resources to assist in cleanup efforts. Residents are encouraged to report any damage caused by the hail to the authorities to aid in recovery assessments.
