Protests Erupt in Gaza Against War and Hamas Leadership

Wed 26th Mar, 2025

In the Gaza Strip, significant protests have taken place for the second consecutive day, with demonstrators calling for an end to the ongoing conflict with Israel and expressing discontent towards the Hamas organization. Eyewitnesses report that thousands of Palestinians gathered in various locations, including Beit Lahiya and the city of Gaza in the north, as well as Khan Younis in the south. A notable portion of the protesters voiced their opposition specifically against Hamas, as reported by local sources.

This level of dissent is particularly rare in the Gaza Strip, where the Islamist group has historically suppressed internal opposition. The protests appear to be primarily directed at Hamas leaders based abroad, with many participants accusing them of neglecting the needs of the local population, which has been severely affected by the ongoing war. Some Hamas officials are known to live in luxury in places like Qatar, contrasting sharply with the dire living conditions experienced by the residents of Gaza.

On Tuesday, hundreds of individuals in Beit Lahiya also protested against the conflict, with some calling for an end to Hamas's rule. Similar demonstrations have been reported in various other parts of the Gaza Strip, indicating a growing sentiment among the populace against both the war and the leadership of Hamas.
