Palm Sunday Flight Activity Causes Concern Over Noise Levels in Groß-Enzersdorf

The issue of flight-related noise continues to dominate discussions in Groß-Enzersdorf. On Palm Sunday, there were a total of 360 landings and 34 takeoffs recorded, averaging one landing and one takeoff per minute at runway 16/34. Notably, 25 of these landings occurred between the hours of 11 PM and 7 AM, raising concerns among residents about the impact of nocturnal flight activity.

According to data from Vienna International Airport, flight movements are still 12 percent below the peak levels seen in 2019. This reduction comes despite a significant increase in passenger numbers last year, which rose by 7.4 percent, translating to approximately 50,000 additional travelers. Overall, the airport accommodated around 32 million passengers, marking a slight increase of 0.2 percent. Additionally, the volume of freight handled at the airport experienced a substantial rise of 21.6 percent, reaching nearly 300,000 tons.

Residents of Groß-Enzersdorf have expressed ongoing dissatisfaction regarding the frequency of flights, particularly during late-night hours. The increase in air traffic has sparked discussions about the need for better management of flight schedules to minimize disruption to local communities.
