On March 28, 2025, the Interdisciplinary Transformation University (IT:U) in Linz hosted its inaugural Open Day, an event that attracted close to 500 participants eager to explore the university's innovative educational offerings.
The Open Day ran from 10 AM to 8 PM, welcoming a diverse audience consisting of high school students, current university students, PhD candidates, and local residents, all interested in learning more about the university's unique programs in digital transformation.
Visitors began their experience with guided tours of the IT:U facilities, including the Learn Labs, where they had the opportunity to engage with cutting-edge technologies such as Virtual Reality (VR), motion capture, and robotics. Attendees were introduced to various research projects, including robots designed to assist in agriculture, data analysis for disaster management, and a VR driving simulator aimed at enhancing road safety.
Another highlight of the event was a presentation by several founding professors of the university, who introduced the new Master's program titled "Interdisciplinary Computing," set to commence in the upcoming fall semester. They outlined the various specializations and academic fields encompassed within the program.
In the Project Space, attendees gained exclusive insights into the student experience at IT:U. Unlike traditional universities, IT:U emphasizes project-based and personalized learning. Students collaborate in small interdisciplinary groups to tackle real-world challenges, guided by Learning Coaches who provide both subject matter expertise and methodological support.
