Monday, 3rd May sees thousands of inline skaters come to take part in the popular inline skaters city tour, Munich Blade Night.
The Green City and Sports Department in 2010 won the health insurance company AOK as a cooperation partner. This "insurance contribution" will definitely secure 18 Blade Nights this year, says Jörg Senning, who in 1999 started the event in Munich with the city authorities. Since then, Sports Departments head Rudolf Behacker hass also become a big fan of this event.
Record attendance was set in 2001 with 38,000 participants, while the last several years has seen around 10,000 skaters taking part. They are always accompanied by about 200 Blade Guards and the "Sani-Skaters' of the Bavarian Red Cross.
This year the meet up is at 7 p.m. at the start/finish area beside the Gasthaus Alte Messe for a warm-up party, arranged by Radio Charivari 95.5. There you can buy for two euros a colored bracelet that entitles you to a beverage to the value of 2.50 euros. 9 p,m. is the start time.
