A mother is set to appear in court at the Vienna Regional Criminal Court following a serious incident involving her two-year-old daughter. The unfortunate accident occurred on February 2 in their home located in Ottakring, where the child operated a meat grinder that had been left plugged in on the living room floor, resulting in the loss of her left hand.

According to reports, the mother was preparing minced meat with the kitchen appliance and left the room briefly. Although she had turned off the meat grinder, she failed to unplug it from the electrical outlet. At the time, a friend of the mother was present in the living room, but was unable to intervene as the toddler approached the device and turned it back on.

The prosecution has accused the mother of gross negligence, asserting that she failed to uphold her duty of care and supervision towards her child. The authorities argue that merely switching off the grinder was insufficient; she should have also disconnected it from the power source to prevent such a hazardous situation.

This case has raised significant concerns regarding child safety and parental responsibility, highlighting the tragic consequences that can arise from momentary lapses in vigilance. The mother is facing serious charges, specifically for neglecting the welfare of a minor, which has resulted in lasting consequences for her daughter.

The court proceedings are anticipated to shed light on the responsibilities parents bear in ensuring a safe environment for their children, particularly when it comes to potentially dangerous household appliances.
