Expansion Plans for Gasometer U-Bahn Station: New Exits to Enhance Accessibility

The U3 Gasometer station in Vienna, known for its unique design featuring only one exit per platform, is set to undergo significant improvements. Currently, the sole exit leads directly to the entrance of the first Gasometer building. However, this will soon change as the Wiener Linien, the city's public transport authority, has announced plans to construct two new accessible exits at the opposite end of the platform. Construction is expected to commence later this month, with the goal of having the new exits operational by 2027.

The decision for this expansion comes after a long period of urban development in the area surrounding the station. According to a spokesperson for Wiener Linien, the timing of the project aligns with the ongoing city development efforts that have gradually filled the space between Gasometer and Kern-Simmering.

One of the new exits will be located at the intersection of Medwedweg and Nussbaumallee, seamlessly integrated into an existing structure. The second exit will be built in the curve of Medwedweg, directly across from the first. This location will feature a new reception building, which is designed to accommodate future development on top of it.

For commuters, the Wiener Linien has assured that there will be no immediate disruptions during the construction phase. Initial work will take place in a designated area outside the platform, ensuring that regular service remains uninterrupted.

This upgrade aims to enhance the overall experience for passengers and improve accessibility at the Gasometer station, reflecting the city's commitment to modernizing public transport facilities.
