Authorities have confirmed that a 77-year-old Austrian man was discovered deceased in a water canal in Thailand. The man, originally from Rottenmann, is currently the subject of an autopsy, with initial reports indicating that foul play cannot be entirely ruled out. The Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has acknowledged the death of an Austrian citizen in Thailand but has not provided further details due to privacy regulations.
The deceased had relocated to Thailand and was reportedly married to a 65-year-old local woman. According to various media sources, the man was suffering from dementia, which may have contributed to him becoming disoriented and subsequently falling into the canal. However, other potential causes of death have not been dismissed, prompting a forensic examination of his body at a hospital in Phitsanulok.
He had been reported missing since March 20, and the circumstances surrounding his disappearance and subsequent death are under investigation. Authorities are working to gather more information as they await the results of the autopsy.
