18th Research Forum of Austrian Universities of Applied Sciences Scheduled for May 7-8, 2025 at FH Campus Wien

The FH Campus Wien is set to host the 18th Research Forum of Austrian Universities of Applied Sciences on May 7 and 8, 2025. This year's forum, themed 'Doing Research - Shaping the Future,' will showcase a range of innovative research projects addressing contemporary societal issues. The event has already seen an unprecedented response, with nearly 600 participants registered, marking a new record for attendance.

In a notable expansion, universities were also invited to submit their research projects for the first time, adding to the diversity of contributions. The forum will feature 174 presentations across eight distinct research areas, along with 75 informative poster displays. The event aims to highlight the significant and forward-thinking research being conducted at Austria's universities of applied sciences.

Elisabeth Haslinger-Baumann, the Vice-Rector for Research and Development at FH Campus Wien, emphasized the importance of the forum in showcasing leading-edge projects. She noted that a panel of independent experts selected the most relevant submissions from a large pool of entries, ensuring a wide array of topics, including biotechnology, sustainability research, sustainable tourism, nursing research, and artificial intelligence.

The venue for the forum will be FH Campus Wien, located at Favoritenstraße 226, 1100 Wien. The detailed schedule for both days includes:

  • Wednesday, May 7, 2025
  • 8:30 - 9:30: Registration
  • 9:30 - 10:00: Opening remarks by Elisabeth Haslinger-Baumann and Heimo Sandtner, the Academic Director and Rector of FH Campus Wien.
  • 10:00 - 11:00: Keynote address on civic engagement in higher education by Judith Kohlenberger, a cultural scientist and migration researcher.
  • 11:00 - 17:00: Various track sessions followed by an evening event at Wien Museum, Karlplatz 4, 1040 Wien.
  • 18:30: Welcome by Wilhelm Behensky, Chairman of the Executive Board of FH Campus Wien.
  • 19:00: Political dialogue featuring Eva-Maria Holzleitner, Federal Minister for Women, Science, and Research, and Ulrike Prommer, President of the Austrian Conference of Universities of Applied Sciences.
  • Thursday, May 8, 2025
  • 8:30 - 9:00: Registration
  • 9:00 - 9:30: Opening remarks by Wilhelm Behensky and Veronika Kaup-Hasler, City Councilor for Culture and Science in Vienna.
  • 9:30 - 10:30: Political panel discussing the need for research and innovation in a strong Europe.
  • 10:30 - 11:30: Leading-edge research programs will be presented, including topics such as recycling strategies for textiles and operationalizing AI in supply chain management.
  • 11:30 - 13:15: Additional track sessions.
  • 13:15 - 13:45: Closing ceremony, including an awards presentation and flag handover.

For media professionals, the FH Campus Wien is organizing interviews with researchers and university leadership. Additionally, guided tours of the research centers in Molecular Biotechnology and Sustainability Assessment will be available on May 8.

As the largest university of applied sciences in Austria, FH Campus Wien serves approximately 8,500 students across multiple campuses. The institution offers nearly 70 degree programs and focuses on applied research and development through ten specialized research centers.
