Police action against online child pornography ring
Police launch a major raid against a network of pedophiles who exchanged child pornography on the internet. The initial point of the investigation was a case in Munich. Police searched several homes and offices in a major nationwide raid. Ten suspects aged between 33 and 71 are suspected of possessing and exchanging images and videos with child pornography content.
According to the Munich police, the starting point for the searches was a case from Munich. In September 2018, investigators had caught a 49-year-old man from Munich who was alleged to have exchanged child pornography material on the internet with the other suspects for years. In addition, the suspects had talked about sexual abuse of children in chat rooms, according to the police report.
Police expect more suspects after child porn raid
The large-scale raid, called "Action Day", was coordinated from Bamberg by the Centre for Combating Child Pornography and Sexual Abuse on the Internet (ZKI). The officers struck at several locations nationwide on Wednesday and were able to seize extensive evidence.
In Bavaria, the residences and business premises of four suspects were searched. In Hesse, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saxony-Anhalt, raids were also carried out on suspected members of the child pornography ring who are allegedly connected to the Munich case.
Further clues could now emerge from the seized material. According to the police, it is to be expected that the evaluation will bring further suspects into the focus of the investigators.
