Expansion of XISTA Science Park Unveiled in Klosterneuburg

A significant expansion of the XISTA Science Park in Klosterneuburg has been officially inaugurated, providing an additional 3,000 square meters of advanced laboratory and office space. The development aims to further strengthen the park's role as a hub for innovative, research-driven enterprises in Austria and across Europe.

Since its establishment in 2019, XISTA Science Park has provided infrastructure tailored for companies focused on research and technology. The new building complements existing facilities, offering enhanced opportunities for start-ups and established firms working at the intersection of science and business. The opening ceremony was attended by key political and scientific figures, highlighting the park's growing importance within the region's innovation ecosystem.

The expansion reflects a broader strategy to position Lower Austria as a destination for scientific excellence and technological entrepreneurship. Regional authorities emphasized that the global competitive environment is increasingly demanding, and that success will rely on advancements in research and high-tech development rather than cost-based competition. This approach is intended to create the conditions necessary for scientific breakthroughs, with the ultimate goal of fostering companies capable of achieving international success.

The new building not only increases capacity but is also intended to support the transition of scientific research into practical business applications. By providing state-of-the-art facilities and access to growth capital, the park seeks to accelerate the commercialisation of research, resulting in job creation, increased economic value, and sustained prosperity for the region.

The Institute of Science and Technology Austria (ISTA), which is closely connected to the science park, has become internationally recognised for its research excellence. The institute currently employs around 1,400 people from approximately 80 countries, all working on projects at the forefront of their respective fields. The latest addition to the XISTA campus is seen as a key component in transferring research outcomes into the broader economy, thereby strengthening both the scientific and business communities.

Representatives from the European Investment Fund highlighted the critical nature of technology transfer for bolstering Europe's global competitiveness over the next five years. They underscored that the way Europe harnesses technological progress will play a decisive role in defining the foundation for future generations.

The management of XISTA outlined the park's core mission: to nurture new enterprises emerging from the research sector. With the latest investment, the facility now hosts 30 companies, employing around 500 people from around the world. The park's leadership cited the importance of providing not only physical space but also supporting services, capital access, and networking opportunities to help spin-offs and start-ups thrive.

Other stakeholders, including representatives from technology transfer organisations and regional business development agencies, discussed ongoing investments in the region's technology and research infrastructure. Since 2000, approximately 180 million euros have been allocated to creating an environment conducive to collaboration between academia and industry.

The new building was blessed by religious leaders in a brief ceremony, marking its official integration into the XISTA Science Park. The facility is expected to contribute significantly to the growth of science-based businesses and to the advancement of innovation in Austria and the wider European context.
