Welcome to Reurerbäck, located at Sanderstraße 21. This establishment has been a tavern since around 1450, named after the nearby Reuerer Monastery, which was founded as a convent for fallen girls showing remorse. The monastery, established in 1227, was home to the Sisters of the Penitent Saint Mary Magdalene. It was abandoned in the mid-16th century and taken over by Carmelite monks. The term 'Bäck' refers to its gastronomic roots as a former bakery with wine serving rights, a unique feature from the Napoleonic era in Würzburg. The original tavern was destroyed on March 16, 1945, but the historic cellar survived the bombing unscathed, providing shelter to over 100 souls that night. The Neidel family rebuilt the tavern immediately after the war, and it operated as a bakery with wine service until 1968, when it was transformed into a specialty beer tavern. In 1996, three students revived Reuerbäck from its 1970s pub atmosphere, with one of them, Alex, continuing to manage it for over 23 years. The venue has shed the constraints of propriety and embraces its roots, inviting guests to experience freedom and friendliness in the 21st century.
