About Pfannkuchen-Kuchel

For over 400 years, the Rappen has been located in front of the Galgentor in Rothenburg ob der Tauber, making it an integral part of the history of this historic imperial city. First mentioned in 1603 as an inn and tavern, it provided travelers with comfortable lodging and hospitality. In 1706, the Rappen became a post station, further increasing its significance in Rothenburg's history. The Rappengarten served as a meeting place for the 'Imperial City Society' during summer months, where they quenched their thirst with beer or wine. After the city lost its imperial freedom in 1802 and was incorporated into the Kingdom of Bavaria, the newly formed citizens' militia held its annual parade in front of the Rappen. The Rappen was heavily damaged during a bombing raid at the end of World War II, along with much of the historic old town. The post-war reconstruction and continuous expansion of the building, including the integration of a historic neighboring building in 1960 and the opening of the Topplerhaus in 2009, led to the modern hotel we see today, which combines modern amenities with imperial city flair, emphasizing guest satisfaction and hospitality for over four centuries.
