About Kemptner Hütte

Welcome to Kemptner Hütte, located at an altitude of 1,846 meters! Nestled high above the Sperrbachtobel, Kemptner Hütte stands amidst the Allgäu main ridge between Krottenkopf and Mädelegabel. Here, you can expect lush green meadows, rocky mountain peaks, and numerous marmots in the vicinity. As dusk falls, you can experience the impressive light ambiance created by the red hues of the Krottenspitz ridge. The Kemptner Hütte is a significant shelter of the German Alpine Club Kempten-Allgäu and one of the most renowned huts in the Allgäu. It serves as the starting point for the famous Alpine crossing from Oberstdorf to Merano, and the Heilbronner Weg also passes by the Kemptner Hütte. Our hut has a long tradition: it was built in 1891 into the romantic mountain panorama of the Allgäu and has been continuously expanded over the years. Since 1972, it has been run by the Wagner family, and since 2001 by us, daughter Gaby and her husband Martin Braxmair, now in the second generation. Important: We are not a 5-star hotel, but a shelter for hikers. Therefore, we cannot offer Wi-Fi, mobile reception, electricity in the rooms, or running water for showers. However, what awaits you is genuine hospitality and a cozy hut atmosphere in the Alps. We not only live in nature but also with it. Our meals are prepared fresh for you using high-quality, regional products. Whether it's fragrant cake from the oven, a hearty snack, or traditional roast beef, you can refuel for your next hiking stage here.
