The Herzogkeller Bayreuth was built in 1889 as a summer hall next to the Bayreuth Brewery and is architecturally a successor to the park buildings that served as places for leisure activities for the court society since the 17th century. Following the economic crisis of the 1920s, the beer garden operation was discontinued, and the hall was used as a storage facility for the brewery. After extensive renovation, the Herzogkeller was reopened in 1989 and was even listed as a historical monument in the Bavarian monument list in 2016. It is the largest beer garden in Bayreuth and the only true beer cellar, accommodating around 1,000 guests under shady linden trees, with an additional 350 seats in the beer hall. The Herzogkeller operates as a typical Franconian beer garden, focusing on the Franconian brewing art with the handcrafted specialties of the Bayreuth Brewery.
