About Gasthof Rotes Roß

Gasthof Rotes Roß is the oldest inn in the region, first mentioned in 1459 as 'Schenke am Kirchhof' in the history of Zell. For over 560 years, guests have appreciated the hospitality of this family-run inn, which has been in the family since 1831 and is now managed by the sixth generation. The inn serves traditional Franconian specialties and features a beer garden where guests can enjoy local beers and wines. It is a bike-friendly hotel located at the foot of the Waldstein mountain, at the beginning of the 'Saale-Radweg' and the 'Fränkischen Gebirgsweg' in Upper Franconia. The peaceful surroundings invite relaxing walks in summer and winter hikes through the snowy landscape. The Waldstein mountain offers ruins, beautiful viewpoints, and the medieval Bärenfang, the only preserved hunting monument of its kind.
