Moderna's Corona vaccine has just been licensed, earlier than planned. Germany has ordered tens of millions of doses of this latest vaccine.

As the news agency AFP reports, the coronavirus vaccine of the American manufacturer Moderna is to be approved in the European Union (EU) on the 04th January.

Apparently the drug was supposed to be licensed on the 6th. However, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) has now brought forward the date for the Moderna vaccine to be rolled-out.

In recent days, there has been some sharp criticism of the planning and organisation of the Covid 19 vaccination in the EU and especially in Germany.

Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU)* defended himself by pointing out that currently too little vaccine could be produced and thus not enough could be supplied. According to the Ärzteblatt, Germany has ordered 50 million doses of the Moderna vaccine. The previous evening, Bavaria's Minister-President Markus Söder (CSU) had stated that the long hard Corona lockdown only existed "because there is too little vaccine".

Söder has also said that in Bavaria, half of the currently available vaccine had to be withheld in order to be able to administer the second dose to those already vaccinated in time.
