School Nurse Acquitted of Sexual Assault Charges Against Students

Tue 29th Apr, 2025

A school nurse in Hälsingland has been acquitted of all charges related to alleged sexual offenses against students. The case, which garnered significant attention, stemmed from accusations made during a sexual education class in the fall of 2023.

Reports emerged claiming that the nurse had encouraged a group of boys to engage in inappropriate behavior involving a condom-covered dildo. Following these allegations, the school administration quickly suspended the nurse pending an investigation.

During police interrogations, the nurse denied the accusations, asserting that her intention had been to demonstrate how to properly use a condom, a claim she stated was made in response to persistent requests from the students. According to her account, the situation escalated, resulting in one of the students inserting the dildo into his mouth and encouraging others to do the same.

In December of the previous year, the nurse faced charges of four counts of sexual assault against minors and five counts of attempted sexual assault. The trial commenced a few weeks ago, with proceedings held behind closed doors.

Recently, the Hälsingland District Court announced its ruling, stating that the nurse was not guilty of any of the charges brought against her, which consequently led to the dismissal of all claims for damages. The court noted the nurse's extensive experience as a district nurse and her decade-long involvement in sexual education, which contributed to the credibility of her testimony.

While the testimonies provided by the children and their parents offered substantial support for the prosecution's case, the court identified a significant procedural flaw. Specifically, it noted that the children had been interviewed before the nurse had been questioned, preventing any follow-up inquiries based on her statements. This limitation hindered the defense's ability to cross-examine the children effectively.

The nurse's attorney contended that the children might have been influenced by their parents, thus questioning the reliability of their testimonies. Furthermore, it was suggested that information surrounding the case had circulated on social media platforms, including TikTok, potentially impacting the children's accounts.

The court acknowledged the possibility that the boys may have communicated with one another prior to their police interviews, which could have led to mutual influence on their statements. The judge also remarked on the considerable attention the incident had received within the school community and among parents, suggesting this may have affected the boys' recollections during the interviews, which took place roughly a week after the incident.

Given these circumstances, the court ultimately dismissed the charges against the school nurse.
