Runoff Election Set for Romanian Presidency Between Simion and Dan

Romania is gearing up for a critical runoff election on May 18, which will see far-right candidate George Simion facing off against independent candidate Nicusor Dan, the mayor of Bucharest. Following the counting of over 97% of the votes, Simion secured a significant lead with 40.26% of the ballots cast, while Dan garnered 20.75%, surpassing Crin Antonescu, the candidate from the pro-European center-left coalition, who finished with 20.52%.

Antonescu, acknowledging the outcome, stated that the current results are unlikely to change and expressed gratitude to the three coalition parties for their support.
