In a significant escalation of hostilities, Russian forces launched an extensive assault on several regions of Ukraine, including the capital city of Kyiv, during the night and into the morning hours. This attack is reported to be one of the deadliest in recent times, employing over 440 drones and 32 missiles, as stated by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who described it as one of the most terrifying assaults witnessed in a long time.

According to military officials in Kyiv, the attack has resulted in the deaths of 14 individuals, including a man in his sixties who was a U.S. citizen, as reported by the Kyiv Post. The assault has also left at least 99 others injured, and search efforts are ongoing for additional victims trapped under the debris of destroyed buildings.

The attack has led to the destruction of multiple residential buildings, schools, and critical infrastructure. Fires have broken out in two different districts of Kyiv following debris from downed drones. Eyewitness reports indicate that drones were seen swarming over the city, accompanied by the sound of incoming missiles. The assaults reportedly lasted nearly nine hours.

Kyiv's Mayor Vitali Klitschko warned of the extensive threat posed by the enemy's drones and missiles, stating that they were approaching the city from three different directions.

As these events unfold, a G7 summit is currently taking place in Canada, where President Zelenskyy has been invited to participate. He is expected to meet with world leaders, with the notable exception of U.S. President Donald Trump, who left the meeting early to address the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran.

In recent weeks, Russia has intensified its attacks on Ukraine, deploying an unprecedented number of drones and missiles, following Ukraine's coordinated "Spider Web Operation," which targeted five military airbases in Russia.

In addition, reports indicate that at least 13 individuals have been hospitalized in the Odessa region, where rescue operations are also underway. Explosions have been reported in Zaporizhzhia in southeastern Ukraine, and Chernihiv in the northeast has also been struck by cruise missiles, according to local authorities.
