Investigation Launched Against Hamas in Austria

Fri 3rd Oct, 2025

Authorities in Austria have initiated an investigation into Hamas, the Palestinian militant organization. The Interior Ministry confirmed to the Austrian Press Agency (APA) on Friday that evidence has been secured as part of this ongoing inquiry, although further details cannot be released at this time due to the sensitive nature of the investigation led by the Directorate of State Protection and Intelligence.

Recent developments in this situation coincide with the arrest of three Hamas members in Berlin. According to the German Federal Prosecutor's Office, these individuals, identified as overseas operatives for the group, allegedly procured firearms--including a submachine gun, handguns, and ammunition--within Germany. The prosecutor indicated that these weapons were intended for use in planned attacks against Israeli or Jewish targets in Germany. However, there appears to have been no concrete attack plan in place at this time.

Reports suggest that the investigation in Austria may be connected to the arrests made in Germany. A report from 'ynet' mentioned that Israeli intelligence, particularly the Mossad, collaborated with German intelligence services, leading to the apprehension of the suspects. The operation reportedly spanned multiple countries and resulted in additional arrests outside of Germany.

The ongoing investigations reflect heightened scrutiny of Hamas activities in Europe amid rising concerns about terrorism and security. The Austrian authorities are continuing to assess the situation closely, and updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
