Green Party Criticizes Kickl's Alleged Affinity for Putin

In recent statements, the Green Party has expressed strong concerns regarding the political stance of Herbert Kickl and the Freedom Party (FPÖ) towards Russia. Members of the Green Party highlighted that while tensions escalate in Europe due to provocations from Russian President Vladimir Putin, Kickl appears to be aligning himself with the Russian agenda.

Leonore Gewessler, a prominent figure within the Green Party, emphasized that the FPÖ's rhetoric and actions reflect a troubling disregard for the safety and stability of Austria in the face of external threats. She pointed to recent events, such as drone incursions into Danish airspace, as evidence of the ongoing risks posed by aggressive actions from Russia.

Gewessler noted that the FPÖ's calls for the cessation of sanctions against Russia further indicate their troubling proximity to Russian interests. This stance, according to her, not only undermines the values of peace and security but also creates an environment where dissenting voices within Austria are treated as adversaries.

Moreover, Gewessler criticized Kickl for his aspirations regarding a so-called 'Third Republic,' which she suggests may include a capitulation to Russian influence, potentially making Moscow the de facto capital of Austria. She asserted that such visions are antithetical to democratic principles and the desires of the Austrian populace, who, she insists, do not support any notion of aligning their nation with Russia.

In light of these developments, the Green Party is calling for a reaffirmation of Austria's commitment to democratic values and international solidarity. They stress the importance of maintaining a position that prioritizes national security and the welfare of Austrian citizens over political expediency.
