A 19-year-old soldier from the German Bundeswehr suffered injuries on Saturday while participating in a high-altitude training exercise in Neukirchen am Großvenediger, located in the Pinzgau region. The soldier was part of a group consisting of 25 troops who were descending the eastern ridge of the Keeskogel when the incident occurred.

According to police reports, the young soldier fell approximately 15 meters through rocky terrain during the abseiling activity. Emergency services promptly responded, and the injured man was airlifted to the Accident Hospital in Salzburg for further medical treatment.

Authorities have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident to ascertain the cause of the fall. The incident highlights the inherent risks associated with high-altitude military training and the importance of safety protocols in such environments.

In a separate incident on the same day, a 46-year-old woman from Germany required rescue in Saalfelden, located in the Zell am See District. She had ventured out alone on a hunter's trail while attempting to reach waterfalls in the Stoisengraben area but became disoriented in steep terrain. The woman managed to contact emergency services via her mobile phone for assistance.

Rescue teams were able to locate her using a police helicopter. She was subsequently retrieved through a rope rescue operation and brought back to safety without sustaining any injuries. This incident serves as a reminder of the potential dangers of solitary hiking in remote areas and the necessity of being well-prepared and aware of one's surroundings.
