German court denies daughter of far-right publisher a teaching position

The daughter of Götz Kubitschek, a known figure in Germany's far-right circles, has been denied the opportunity to become a teacher in the state of Saxony. This decision was finalized by the Saxon Higher Administrative Court, which rejected her appeal against being barred from entering the teacher training program. The court's decision was based on assessments of her commitment to constitutional principles, a criterion for public service positions in Germany.

The applicant, whose identity has been connected to Kubitschek through reports from official sources, had initially secured a position for a teaching traineeship at a college in Dresden starting August 2026. However, this offer was revoked due to concerns raised by the Saxon Office for the Protection of the Constitution. The agency had discovered evidence suggesting her possible non-compliance with the requirement for loyalty to the democratic constitution.

Between 2022 and 2025, the woman reportedly attended gatherings organized by the Institute for State Policy (IfS), which is led by her father and categorized as a far-right entity by authorities. The agency's investigation included photographic evidence allegedly placing her at multiple events hosted by the IfS, a group accused of undermining constitutional values.

The Saxon Office of Schools and Education subsequently withdrew her acceptance into the traineeship program. The court sided with this action, agreeing with the assessment that her activities were contrary to the expectations of loyalty to the constitution required for educators. While the applicant argued that her attendance at IfS meetings was due to family obligations, the court maintained that this did not mitigate the concerns about her suitability as a teacher.

An earlier petition filed by the applicant with the Dresden Administrative Court was dismissed in September. This decision has now been upheld by the higher court, rendering further appeals unlikely as the judgment is considered final.

This case highlights the strict standards applied to prospective public servants in Germany concerning their allegiance to democratic principles, especially for roles like teaching, where they are in direct contact with young students.
