FPÖ Criticizes ÖVP's Efforts on Illegal Immigration

Thu 2nd Oct, 2025

In a recent statement, the Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) has expressed strong criticism regarding the government's handling of illegal immigration. The party's General Secretary highlighted what he perceives as ineffective measures taken by the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) in addressing the ongoing issue of illegal immigration.

During discussions at the European Political Community summit in Copenhagen, the ÖVP celebrated its third deportation of a Syrian individual as a notable achievement. However, the FPÖ has dismissed this as mere self-congratulation, labeling it a reflection of the government's overall failure in immigration policy. With over 100,000 Syrians currently residing in Austria, the FPÖ estimates that at the current rate of deportations, it would take approximately 8,000 years to address the situation.

The FPÖ argues that the ÖVP's approach consists mainly of public relations stunts and ineffective summit meetings, suggesting that the party lacks a genuine commitment to resolving the problem of illegal immigration. The criticism points out that the ongoing 'welcoming culture' for illegal asylum seekers needs to shift towards a more stringent deportation policy.

According to the FPÖ, the ÖVP has failed to take significant steps to combat illegal immigration, thereby ensuring the continued openness of Austria's borders. The party accuses the government of prioritizing public image over the safety and cultural identity of the Austrian populace. Furthermore, they criticize the belief that cooperation with immigration advocates in Brussels can lead to a more restrictive immigration policy.

The FPÖ emphasizes that the current state of 'empty promises and ineffective symbolism' is no longer acceptable, urging for a clear and actionable plan to safeguard Austria's borders. The party believes that only a leadership change to a more nationalist stance, represented by a candidate from the FPÖ, would provide the necessary measures for a secure Austria.

In conclusion, the FPÖ asserts that the Austrian citizens are fatigued by political theatrics and demand authentic solutions focused on national security. The party claims that only by implementing a strict immigration halt and a rigorous repatriation process for illegal residents can Austria be made safe again, starting immediately.
