Stehan Zöchling, the chairman of the supervisory board for Pierer Mobility, the parent company of KTM, recently addressed significant challenges faced by businesses in Austria. With production in Mattighofen resuming after a hiatus, KTM is currently seeking to secure approximately 600 million euros and a new investor by the end of May. Zöchling shared that while he cannot disclose detailed information due to the company's public status, he remains optimistic about the direction in which the company is heading, particularly with encouraging market demand and sales figures.
In light of the upcoming Vienna elections, Zöchling has reactivated a non-partisan initiative called #Zusammenstärker, which was originally launched during the national elections. This initiative aims to counteract what he describes as a divisive political climate fostered by certain parties, notably the Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ). Zöchling expressed concern over the rhetoric used by FPÖ candidates, particularly Dominik Nepp, whose aggressive and derogatory comments have contributed to a toxic political atmosphere.
According to Zöchling, the nature of political discourse needs to shift from personal attacks and insults to constructive discussions that can help navigate the current economic challenges. He emphasized the importance of civil society stepping up to advocate for more respectful and productive political engagement.
He also expressed that the current economic climate has been exacerbated by a growing trend of work refusal and a general sentiment that is unfriendly towards entrepreneurs. Zöchling believes that addressing these issues is crucial for fostering a more supportive environment for businesses, which are essential for economic recovery and growth.
As the situation develops, Zöchling's insights highlight the critical intersection of business and politics in Austria, where collaboration and constructive dialogue among various stakeholders are vital for overcoming the challenges that lie ahead.
