Demonstration Against Broccoli Patent

Munich. A heated discussion took place at the European patent office in Munich during the negotiations in the EU patent office about the controversial "Broccoli-Patent", meanwhile hundreds of protesters vented their anger.

On tuesday several hundred biopatent protesters vented their anger with posters and cow bells in front of the european patent office in Munich. Amongst the demonstrators is regisseur Doris Doerrie. The protestors are primarily against the "Broccoli-Patent", about which the EU patent office is debating tuesday and Wednesday.

A British enterprise has a protected patent for a special way of making broccoli since 2002. Critics fear that the backdoor opens for patents on plant types and potentially monopolizes the grocery market.
