Munich Security Conference 2019

At the 55th Munich Security Conference in the Hotel Bayerischer Hof from 15.-17.2.2019, politicians from all over the world discuss current topics. Police are setting up a security area around the venue over the weekend, which has been in effect since this morning. In addition, traffic restrictions may occur.

During the security conference Munich is almost in a state of emergency. Around 30 heads of state and governments participate, as well as 90 foreign and defense ministers. All in all, there are about 600 conference participants and about 300 observers. That also means a lot of safety precautions. The police will provide around 4,400 officers for the safety of Munich and conference visitors on the weekend. As with every year, a security area will be set up around the Hotel Bayerischer Hof. Passers-by have to be prepared for checks around that area.

Not only in the security area but also in other places in Munich, there will be temporary no parking zones.

Because most of the conference participants arrive by plane and then drive on the highway to Munich, sections of the A92 and the A9 are repeatedly blocked, 250 trips are escorted by the police. This will also lead to temporary road blocks downtown.

In addition, tram and bus lines will be affected by detours and disruptions.

The meeting of politicians and military is again accompanied by protests. At the demonstration on Saturday, the organizers expect up to 4,000 participants. Some of the demonstrators will move from Stachus over Odeonsplatz to Marienplatz, others will form a human chain through the pedestrian zone. For traffic, the city center on Saturday afternoon is expected to be largely paralyzed.
