Can We Expect To See Bayern Munich Win The Champions League?

So, we're down to the last four in this season's Champions League competition and already talk has begun about who will lift the trophy at the NSC Olimpiyskiy Stadium in Kiev on the 26th of May. You could say that the focus has been on both Liverpool and Real Madrid but there are two other teams vying to be named the kings of Europe. One of them is AS Roma, and the other, German giants Bayern Munich.

Bayern Munich have been on a bit of a journey so far this season. They kicked off the new campaign with Carlo Ancelotti in charge, and it was a 3-0 defeat at the hands of PSG which saw the Italian sacked. Former player, Willy Sagnol, stepped into the breach for just over a week before former manager Jupp Heynckes returned to the Allianz Arena to take charge until the end of the season.

Since Heynckes was appointed Bayern have gone from strength to strength in the Champions League. They won the remainder of their group games, including a great 3-1 victory over PSG in Munich. They then went on to blow away Turkish side Besiktas in the last 16, before a 2-1 away victory at Sevilla, followed up with a 0-0 draw at home, saw them make it to the semi-finals.

Next up for Heynckes and Bayern are Zinedine Zidane's Real Madrid, who scraped through to the semi finals thanks to a 97th minute Cristiano Ronaldo penalty. While all eyes will be on the Spanish outfit, this is a great chance for Bayern to not only advance to the final, but to be crowned as the best side in Europe too.
Bayern are potentially the one side left in the competition who have quality all over the pitch. They're also hoping to welcome back goalkeeper Manuel Neuer in the not too distant future, and he will be a key figure in the remainder of Bayern's Champions League campaign. Heynckes side have proven they can keep clean sheets, score goals and beat extremely strong attacking sides such as PSG, and they are well placed to dump Real Madrid out of the competition.

If Bayern do make it past the defending champions, they would certainly be more than capable of defeating either Liverpool or AS Roma in the final. The German's were crowned Bundesliga champions for the sixth successive season recently, and this will allow them to now switch their attentions to Europe's elite club competition, while others will still be focused on their domestic programme.

According to some established sites, they have Bayern Munich priced at 23/10 to life the trophy in May, with Real Madrid currently installed as favourites. So, if Bayern were to make it past Zidane's side, they would undoubtedly become favourites to win the competition. With Bayern playing at home first, it gives them a great chance to build an advantage before they head to the Bernabeu for the return leg.
