Woman Detained in Vienna After Dispute with Former Partner Leaves One Injured

Authorities in Vienna have taken a 36-year-old woman into temporary custody following a violent altercation with her former partner in the Landstraße district. The incident, which took place on Friday evening, began when the woman's ex-partner, a 24-year-old man, allegedly visited her apartment without prior notice.

The confrontation escalated, resulting in the man sustaining significant injuries. Emergency responders discovered him in the courtyard of the residential building and transported him to a local hospital for medical treatment. According to initial police assessments, his injuries were inflicted during the dispute with his ex-girlfriend.

Police officers proceeded to the woman's apartment, where they encountered her exhibiting uncooperative behavior during questioning. Both individuals reportedly presented with physical injuries: the man with serious wounds and the woman with minor injuries to her hands. Authorities believe that the injuries may have been caused by a sharp object, potentially a knife, although the specific weapon has not yet been located.

The woman stated that her ex-partner threatened her with the sharp object and claimed she attempted to disarm him. However, the man has denied these allegations. In response to the incident, law enforcement officials have filed charges against the 24-year-old man. Investigators from the Vienna State Criminal Police Office, Center East branch, have taken over the case to clarify the sequence of events and the circumstances leading to the altercation.

As a precautionary measure, authorities have imposed a restraining order and a ban on approaching the 24-year-old man and his residence, as well as a temporary weapons ban against the woman. Police continue to search for the suspected weapon and are gathering additional evidence and witness statements to further their investigation.

The incident raises concerns about domestic disputes and highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to mitigate violence in personal relationships. Both parties remain under investigation as authorities work to establish a clear understanding of the events that transpired.
