Eight Artists Inducted into Swedish Music Hall of Fame for 2025

The Swedish Music Hall of Fame has welcomed eight new members for 2025, expanding its roster to 86 distinguished artists and music creators. The annual induction recognizes individuals and groups who have significantly shaped the country's popular music landscape across various genres and eras.

Among the new inductees is Peter LeMarc, a renowned soul singer-songwriter whose career has spanned over four decades. LeMarc is celebrated for his emotive songwriting and has been honored with multiple Swedish Grammy Awards. His music is noted for its lyrical depth and influence on Swedish-language popular music.

Anti Cimex, a band originating from Skaraborg in the early 1980s, has also been inducted. Known for their pioneering role in the development of Swedish punk, particularly the subgenre referred to as 'kängpunk', the group has had a lasting impact on both national and international punk scenes.

Laleh, who became eligible for induction this year after the 20th anniversary of her debut album, has been recognized for her ongoing contributions to Swedish pop. Her musical approach blends self-determination, creativity, and a distinctive fusion of genres, influencing a broad spectrum of listeners and artists alike.

Sahara Hotnights, a rock band from Robertsfors, joins the Hall of Fame for their role in redefining the image of Swedish rock music. The group, formed by sisters Jennie and Johanna Asplund with Josephine Forsman and Maria Andersson Lundell, has been commended for empowering female musicians and delivering energetic performances since their formation in the early 1990s.

Vikingarna, one of Sweden's best-selling bands, has also been recognized for their decades-long contribution to Swedish popular music. Formed in 1958, Vikingarna's music is considered emblematic of Swedish folk-pop and has enjoyed worldwide success throughout their extensive career.

Sonya Hedenbratt, remembered for her unique jazz vocals and artistic influence in Gothenburg, has been posthumously inducted. Her career was marked by a warm and soulful interpretation of both international jazz standards and Swedish classics, establishing her as a beloved figure in Swedish music history.

Jerry Williams, whose career began in the late 1950s, is another posthumous inductee. Known as a driving force behind Swedish rock and roll, Williams transitioned from his early days with The Violents to a successful solo career, leaving a lasting impression through his energetic stage presence and dedication to rock music.

Kjell Höglund, recognized for his distinct songwriting and influential role as an outsider in Swedish popular music, rounds out this year's inductees. His work, which often combines philosophy, politics, mythology, and everyday realism, has been influential in shaping modern Swedish songwriting.

The Swedish Music Hall of Fame, established by the Svenska Musikskattens Hus foundation in 2011, aims to honor and preserve the legacy of artists and songwriters who have played a pivotal role in the development of Swedish popular music. Previous inductees include internationally renowned acts such as ABBA, Robyn, and Håkan Hellström. This year's selection was determined by a jury comprising journalists, authors, and music editors, with input from the Hall of Fame's extended jury of previously inducted artists.
