Police Apprehend Two Suspects Following Series of Thefts in Neusiedl District

Authorities in Austria have arrested two individuals suspected of committing multiple thefts and burglaries across the Neusiedl district and nearby regions. The arrests were made after a supermarket employee in Kittsee reported a shoplifting incident, which led police to uncover a broader pattern of criminal activity.

The incident occurred when a supermarket staff member noticed a man stealing a bottle of perfume and immediately alerted law enforcement. Officers from the Kittsee police station responded quickly and apprehended a 30-year-old male suspect near the scene, accompanied by a 37-year-old female associate. The stolen perfume was found in their possession at the time of the arrest.

Upon searching the suspects' vehicle, police discovered additional items believed to be stolen, as well as several fuel canisters and a siphoning hose, suggesting involvement in fuel theft. Both individuals were detained while investigators expanded the inquiry into their activities.

A subsequent investigation by the Neusiedl district police revealed that the pair were allegedly responsible for a series of six shoplifting cases and four container burglaries in Kittsee. The suspects are also believed to have committed a residential break-in and a diesel fuel theft in Wolfsthal, located in the neighboring district of Bruck an der Leitha.

During questioning, the two suspects reportedly admitted to entering Austria with the intent to carry out thefts over a period of several months. Items allegedly stolen included electrical installation materials, construction equipment, chainsaws, grounding cables, and diesel fuel. The investigation suggests that the stolen goods were subsequently transported to Slovakia, where they were sold to unidentified buyers.

According to police estimates, the total financial damage caused by these crimes is in the lower five-figure euro range. The authorities have stated that the pair's activities generated significant losses for local businesses and residents.

Following the completion of initial investigative procedures, both suspects were transferred to the Eisenstadt detention center. The Neusiedl district police are continuing their investigation, seeking to identify possible accomplices and to recover additional stolen property. Law enforcement officials have emphasized their commitment to pursuing those responsible for cross-border theft operations and minimizing further impacts on the affected communities.

This case highlights the importance of vigilant security measures and prompt reporting by local businesses, which enabled a swift police response and the apprehension of the suspects. Authorities are encouraging the public to remain alert and to report any suspicious activity to help prevent similar incidents in the future.
