SPÖ Wien Releases Election Campaign Expenditure Report
On April 20, 2025, the SPÖ Wien announced the publication of its election campaign expenditure report, fulfilling its legal obligation to disclose financial details related to the upcoming Wien elections. This report is essential for maintaining transparency in the electoral process.
The legal deadline for parties to publish their campaign costs on their respective websites and notify the Stadtrechnungshof (City Audit Office) has been met by the SPÖ Wien. Barbara Novak, the party's campaign leader and secretary, confirmed that they have published their report on time and have informed the Stadtrechnungshof accordingly.
According to the report, SPÖ Wien's total campaign expenditure reached EUR4.89 million, which means that they did not fully utilize the maximum allowable campaign budget.
Novak emphasized the party's commitment to conducting a fair, transparent, and honest campaign, as outlined in their Fairness Agreement. As the largest campaigning party in Vienna, with approximately 5,000 active members, SPÖ Wien is focused on communicating its policies and plans for a livable and affordable future for the city's residents.
To achieve this, the party has provided its activists with comprehensive campaign materials, allowing them to engage effectively with voters through various public channels and dialogue initiatives. Most of the allocated funds were directed towards ensuring that voters are well-informed about the party's political objectives and future plans.
In her statement, Novak also highlighted the advancements made by the SPÖ Wien in promoting transparency and accountability within politics and public administration over the past five years. The recent amendment to the Vienna Party Funding Law, developed in collaboration with their coalition partner Neos, aims to ensure responsible management of party finances and enhance oversight capabilities, fostering greater openness and public trust in politics.
Following the election on April 27, the parties will have a six-month period to submit their final campaign expenditure reports, which must be verified by an independent auditor and submitted to the Stadtrechnungshof.
