Nearly One Hundred Russian Soldiers Attempt Escape from Military Base
In a significant incident reported on Friday, close to one hundred Russian soldiers attempted to flee from a military facility located in Krasnodar, a city in southwestern Russia. According to information from the Kremlin-aligned Telegram channel Baza, as cited by the independent Russian news outlet Novaya Gazeta, these soldiers had been detained due to previous attempts to desert their military units.
The escape attempt unfolded after it was revealed that some of the detained soldiers had bribed their commanding officer, allowing them temporary permission to leave the base. However, these soldiers did not return, prompting unrest among those who remained. An attorney representing one of the soldiers indicated that the remaining soldiers confronted the military leadership in search of answers regarding the disparity in treatment. They were unarmed during this confrontation, and no injuries were reported.
The attorney conveyed that the soldiers, frustrated by the situation, expressed their dissent, questioning the fairness of granting leave based on financial means. Reports indicate that out of the nearly one hundred soldiers involved in the escape, seven managed to successfully flee, with four of them subsequently captured. The military has since increased security measures, blocking several roads and conducting vehicle checks in the vicinity to locate the three remaining escapees.
It has been reported that some of these soldiers have been held without access to medical care for over six months. Their living conditions are described as dire, with soldiers sleeping in tents and having limited access to food and sanitation facilities. They are reportedly required to participate in roll calls twice daily, further emphasizing the lack of military engagement or productive activity for these individuals.
This incident highlights ongoing issues within the Russian military regarding the treatment of personnel and raises questions about the conditions under which soldiers are held. As the situation develops, further details are expected to emerge regarding the escape and the military's response.
