Lorenz Mayer Appointed as New State Director of the Vienna People's Party

In a significant leadership change within the Vienna People's Party (ÖVP), Lorenz Mayer has been appointed as the new State Director. This transition comes in the wake of the recent municipal elections, which have posed challenges for the party.

Mayer, previously serving as the Deputy State Director, expressed gratitude for the support received from party chairman Markus Figl and the executive board. He highlighted the necessity for a strong centrist political force in Vienna during these challenging times. Mayer emphasized his commitment to leveraging his experience to help the party navigate its current situation and to develop appealing proposals for the citizens of Vienna in the near future.

Markus Figl, the acting chairman of the party, welcomed Mayer's appointment and looks forward to collaborating with him. He noted that Mayer embodies both continuity and innovation, having served as the district chairman in Meidling, where he is well-acquainted with local issues. Figl also acknowledged Mayer's political acumen, which will be crucial in shaping the future direction of the Vienna People's Party.

At just 29 years old, Mayer's political career began in 2015 when he became a district councilor. He ascended to the role of district party chairman in Meidling in 2022, following earlier positions as a parliamentary staff member and State Director of the Vienna Senior Citizens' Association. The recent vacancy arose with the departure of Peter Sverak, paving the way for Mayer to take on this pivotal role. In addition to his responsibilities as State Director, he will serve as a member of the new municipal council and parliament as the ninth candidate on the party's list.

As the Vienna People's Party prepares for the upcoming challenges, Mayer's leadership is seen as a crucial element in revitalizing the party's presence and enhancing its appeal to voters.
