FH Technikum Wien Achieves Austrian Environmental Label

The FH Technikum Wien has recently been awarded the Austrian Environmental Label for Educational Institutions, making it the only university in the country to receive this distinction. This recognition coincides with Earth Day, reinforcing the institution's commitment to sustainability.

The Environmental Label serves as a significant indicator of environmental awareness, social responsibility, and educational quality, requiring institutions to pledge ongoing progress in these areas. The certification process involves a thorough assessment across three key domains:

  • Education for Sustainable Development: The university actively incorporates sustainability into its curriculum, systematically integrating ecological, social, and economic aspects into teaching. The approach is both academically robust and practical, ensuring a high level of pedagogical diversity and quality.
  • Responsible University Operations: The university implements a comprehensive environmental strategy that encompasses energy consumption, procurement, and mobility practices, with clear measures and quantifiable progress.
  • Internal and External Communication: The commitment to sustainability is evident in the daily interactions and engagement of all staff members. These efforts are embedded in the institution's mission statement.

On the occasion of Earth Day, the university's management expressed their satisfaction with the successful completion of this vital project, highlighting the importance of fostering an inclusive workplace environment, which includes initiatives aimed at promoting gender equality.

Attaining the Austrian Environmental Label represents a pivotal achievement, underscoring the university's ongoing dedication to fostering future-oriented education. The university aims to set ambitious goals for the coming years, as outlined in a detailed action plan. Initiatives include further embedding ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) topics into existing and new educational offerings, transitioning to environmentally certified electricity, and enhancing green spaces on campus.

In its final report, the Association for Consumer Information (VKI) commended the university for its high standards in educational quality and its commitment to teaching excellence. This recognition provides comprehensive guidance for all stakeholders and underscores the institution's dedication to delivering high-quality education.
