Fatal Accident Near the Border: 96-Year-Old Driver Strikes Cyclist
A tragic incident occurred on April 7, 2025, on Road 103, between Nová Ves nad Luznicí and Halámky, close to the village of Dvory nad Luznicí, resulting in the death of a 56-year-old female cyclist. According to reports, the cyclist was struck by a car driven by a 96-year-old man around 11:30 AM.
Witnesses at the scene attempted to provide first aid to the injured cyclist, who lay motionless on the road following the collision. Emergency services quickly arrived and initiated advanced resuscitation measures, including securing her airways and connecting her to a ventilator. Shortly thereafter, the medical team succeeded in restoring her heart function.
The cyclist was subsequently airlifted to the Anesthesiology and Resuscitation Department of the Ceské Budejovice hospital. Unfortunately, despite the efforts of the medical staff, she succumbed to her injuries shortly after arrival.
The circumstances surrounding the collision are currently under investigation, according to Vera Mziková, a spokesperson for the Jindrichuv Hradec police. Authorities are looking into whether the elderly driver possesses the necessary valid medical certifications to operate a vehicle given his advanced age.
This incident raises significant questions regarding road safety and the capability of elderly drivers. The local community is left in shock as they mourn the loss of a life in such a preventable manner.
