Successful Investigation: Elderly Couple Robbed in Their Home
An elderly couple residing in the municipality of Bergland fell victim to a burglary while they were at home. In late February, they reported to the Ybbs police that valuables, including gold jewelry and coins valued at over EUR5,000, were missing from a display case in their living room. Initial investigations indicated that the assailant entered the residence through an unlocked courtyard door.
The perpetrator stealthily ascended to the upper floor, where he located the unsecured display case. Notably, the couple was present during the incident but did not notice the intruder at the time. According to Thomas Heinreichsberger, the district police commander, their lack of awareness was a fortunate coincidence for the burglar.
Upon examining the scene, police seized the display case and collected evidence that ultimately led to the identification of the suspect. The fingerprints collected from the scene matched those of a Romanian national, born in 2004. Commander Heinreichsberger expressed that the diligent work by the Ybbs police department was crucial in resolving this case.
Currently, the suspect does not have a known residence within the country and is now subject to a search warrant. The incident has raised concerns about security and safety within the community, prompting local authorities to emphasize the importance of securing homes and being vigilant against potential intruders.
The police have urged residents, particularly the elderly, to ensure their doors and windows are locked at all times and to report any suspicious activity in their neighborhoods promptly.
This case highlights the ongoing challenges law enforcement faces in combating property crimes and the need for community awareness. Authorities continue to work diligently to ensure the safety of residents in Bergland and surrounding areas.
