Drunken Duo Attempts Bank and Tobacco Shop Heist in Vienna

In a bizarre turn of events on Wednesday morning, an attempted robbery at a bank and a nearby tobacco shop in the Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus district of Vienna ended in failure. The incident involved four individuals, two of whom were apprehended by law enforcement, as reported by police spokesperson Philipp Haßlinger.

The failed heist was attributed to the perpetrators' intoxicated state, with blood alcohol levels exceeding two promille. Their attempts at robbery were marked by a significant lack of planning and professionalism, which they seemed to compensate for with excessive alcohol consumption.

According to police reports, the first attempt took place around 9 AM at a bank located on Hütteldorfer Straße. Two accomplices remained outside, while the other two entered the bank brandishing what appeared to be a toy pistol. The bank staff were not approached in a conventional manner; rather, one robber remarked to the other, unclear on their expectations, that they likely would not receive any money.

After leaving the bank empty-handed, the duo proceeded to the adjacent tobacco shop where they again brandished the toy weapon. One of the men asked the shopkeeper for money, to which she succinctly replied 'no,' effectively ending that robbery attempt as well.

Shortly after the failed attempts, two suspects were arrested at a nearby tram stop, while their accomplices managed to escape. Initially, the two apprehended individuals, aged 40 and 43, were deemed unfit for questioning due to their level of intoxication.

In a separate incident occurring in the early hours of Wednesday morning, two masked men executed a more traditional robbery at a gas station on Kaisermühlendamm in the Donaustadt area. Armed with real firearms, they threatened the cashier, demanding cash with a sense of urgency. The cashier complied quickly, handing over an undisclosed amount of money before the robbers fled in the direction of Industriestraße.

These events highlight the ongoing issue of robbery in urban areas, where the methods and motivations of perpetrators continue to evolve.
