Community Energy Initiative Planned in Wolkersdorf

Over 40 residents gathered for an inaugural meeting focused on establishing a citizen energy community in Wolkersdorf. The meeting was convened by local Green Party council member Christian Schrefel, who also serves as the chairman of the municipal Renewable Energy Community (EEG) in Wolkersdorf.

During the meeting held at the Obersdorf Cultural Hall, the chairman of the EEG Gießhübl provided insights into the formation process and the necessary steps involved in creating such a community. The initiative aims to foster renewable energy production and consumption at a local level, promoting sustainability and community engagement.

Participants discussed the benefits of forming a citizen energy community, which includes harnessing renewable energy sources and potentially reducing energy costs for members. The initiative aligns with broader efforts to transition towards sustainable energy solutions and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.

The community energy project is part of a growing trend across Austria, where local groups are increasingly taking charge of their energy production to ensure a more sustainable and self-sufficient energy future. The establishment of a citizen energy community in Wolkersdorf could serve as a model for other regions aiming to enhance their renewable energy capabilities.

As the planning progresses, further meetings and workshops are expected to take place, allowing more residents to get involved and contribute to the initiative. The goal is not only to develop a practical energy solution but also to cultivate a sense of community ownership and responsibility regarding energy resources.
