Suspect Arrested in Political Murder Case
A man named Vance Boelter has been apprehended in connection with the murder of politician Melissa Hortman and her husband, as well as the shooting of Senator John Hoffman and his wife. The incident appears to be politically motivated, targeting Democratic officials.
According to reports, Boelter was captured near his property in Green Isle, Minnesota, during the early hours of Monday. The local police in Ramsey County shared images of the arrest, which seemed to occur without major incident.
Eyewitness accounts suggest that Boelter was armed at the time of his capture. A neighbor, Neal Kinzer, reported that Boelter was detected by a wildlife camera before law enforcement was alerted. Kinzer expressed surprise that Boelter returned to the area despite the ongoing search for him.
Governor Tim Walz confirmed Boelter's arrest and provided an update on Senator Hoffman, who has undergone multiple surgeries after being struck by nine bullets but is now reported to be out of danger. Hoffman's wife expressed gratitude for his survival through a colleague.
Authorities found Boelter's vehicle abandoned in a field in Belle Plaine. Drew Evans, who led the investigation, stated that Boelter faces formal charges of murder for the deaths of Melissa Hortman and her spouse, as well as attempted murder charges for the attack on Senator Hoffman and his wife. It is believed that Boelter acted alone in this violent incident.
Reports indicate that Boelter disguised himself as a police officer, donned a rubber mask, and assaulted the politicians at their residence. He reportedly used a vehicle that resembled a police car during the attack. After a brief exchange of gunfire with law enforcement, he fled the scene, leaving behind a vehicle that contained automatic weapons and a list of names of additional Democratic politicians and individuals associated with abortion clinics.
Boelter was employed by a security firm and is described as a security expert with experience in conflict zones such as Gaza and Africa. He is associated with evangelical circles and is known for his anti-abortion stance. The incident has sparked widespread outrage across the United States, prompting an extensive manhunt since the initial attack.
