Worker Injured in Accident on Strawberry Field

A serious workplace accident occurred on a strawberry field in the Ried im Innkreis district, resulting in significant injuries to a 45-year-old man. The incident took place on a Wednesday afternoon when the worker stumbled on the trailer of a tractor and fell headfirst into the straw spreader.

According to police reports, the injured individual, who is from Upper Austria, was working alongside his 42-year-old wife, assisting in the process of spreading straw on the field. At approximately 5:20 PM, while she operated the tractor, he stood on the trailer using a pitchfork to distribute the straw. Unfortunately, during this task, he lost his balance, leading to the accident that caused him to sustain severe head injuries.

The local fire department responded promptly to the scene, successfully rescuing the injured man. After receiving initial medical treatment from an emergency physician, he was airlifted to the AKH Linz hospital for further evaluation and care.

This incident highlights the inherent risks associated with agricultural work, particularly in operations involving heavy machinery and manual labor. It serves as a reminder of the importance of safety protocols and awareness in the farming sector.
