Ukraine Set to Resume Prisoner Exchange Talks with Russia

Efforts to revive the stalled prisoner exchange process between Ukraine and Russia are underway, according to recent statements from Ukrainian officials. The initiative aims to secure the release of approximately 1,200 Ukrainian soldiers currently held in Russian detention.

The former Ukrainian Defense Minister, Rustem Umerov, who now serves as Ukraine's ambassador to the United States, announced on social media that the exchange process is expected to be reactivated soon. Umerov, previously responsible for leading negotiation delegations with Russian counterparts, indicated that the renewed dialogue seeks to build upon earlier agreements brokered in Istanbul.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also commented on the situation, expressing optimism that the exchange will move forward. The Ukrainian Security Council, represented by Umerov, has reportedly engaged in consultations with officials in Turkey and the United Arab Emirates, leveraging international partnerships to facilitate progress in the negotiations.
