Authorities in Vienna have apprehended two men for attempting to use counterfeit currency in a supermarket located in the Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus district. The suspects, both Moroccan nationals aged 36 and 39, were taken into custody earlier this month after trying to pay with a forged EUR50 note.
According to police reports, the men were found in possession of a total of 31 counterfeit bills. In addition to the fake currency, investigators also seized a forged Italian driver's license and a bank card that did not belong to either individual.
Despite the evidence against them, both suspects have not admitted to the charges of counterfeiting. Following the investigation, they were transferred to a correctional facility based on the directives of the Vienna Public Prosecutor's Office.
This incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding the circulation of counterfeit currency in Austria, prompting law enforcement agencies to intensify their efforts to combat financial crimes. Authorities urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to currency transactions.
