Severe Winter Conditions Disrupt Traffic Across the Country

Tue 25th Nov, 2025

Widespread winter weather has led to significant traffic disruptions throughout the nation, as adverse road conditions resulted in numerous accidents involving both passenger vehicles and commercial trucks. Snow-covered roads and slush created hazardous driving situations in several regions, causing vehicles to skid off the road and, in some cases, overturn.

In Inzersdorf, a lorry overturned due to the slippery surface, while in Allhaming, another truck slid into a roadside ditch. On the A1 motorway heading towards Salzburg, a car left the roadway between Seewalchen and St. Georgen in the district of Vöcklabruck, resulting in minor injuries to one individual.

Additional incidents occurred in the Wels-Land district, where a car lost control on the Wiener Straße (B1) in Edt bei Lambach and overturned. The 25-year-old driver, affected by the heightened risk of slipping, suffered injuries and required hospital treatment. Emergency services promptly secured the accident site, restricting B1 traffic to a single lane for approximately 45 minutes.

Another accident was reported in Thalheim bei Wels, also within the Wels-Land district. A passenger vehicle collided with a tree at the intersection of Bruckhofstraße and Kirchmairstraße amid wintry road conditions. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in this case. Firefighters assisted in recovering the vehicle and reopening the affected crossroad, which remained closed for about half an hour.

In the Eferding district, a collision between two vehicles on the Wörther Gemeindestraße in Pupping led to three people sustaining injuries. A 24-year-old driver intended to turn left onto the Brandstätter Landesstraße when another car, driven by a 37-year-old, approached from that direction. The resulting collision caused the younger driver's pick-up truck to overturn and come to rest on its side. Both drivers, along with the 12-year-old daughter of one of the drivers, were transported to medical facilities in Linz for treatment of undetermined injuries.

Authorities have urged motorists to exercise extreme caution and adapt their driving to the prevailing winter conditions. Emergency services remain on high alert as further incidents may occur should weather conditions persist. Road maintenance crews continue to clear snow and address icy patches to restore safer travel conditions across the affected areas.

The recent onset of winter has underscored the importance of preparedness for hazardous weather, highlighting the necessity for appropriate vehicle equipment and attentive driving to minimize risks during severe weather events.
