The Mödling City Transport Museum will officially open its doors for the season, showcasing a rich history of local transportation. In the late 1980s, significant changes occurred in the area with the construction of a Park & Ride facility on Thomas Tamussino Street. This development led to the demolition of the historic depots belonging to the Hinterbrühler Electric Railway. However, one of the large buildings was preserved due to advocacy from the then-mayor, Werner Burg, of the Social Democratic Party (SPÖ).
After its preservation, the hall served the municipal works department until 1987 when the first railcar from the newly established Mödling City Transport Museum found its home there. The museum, founded in 1988, has since become a vital repository of local transport history, offering visitors a glimpse into the evolution of urban mobility in the region.
The museum aims to educate the public about the significance of historical transport systems and their impact on urban development. Throughout the season, various exhibits will be on display, highlighting not only the vehicles themselves but also the stories behind them and their role in the community.
Visitors can expect guided tours, interactive displays, and special events designed to engage people of all ages. The museum encourages families, history enthusiasts, and anyone interested in the transport sector to explore its offerings. The opening day will feature a series of activities, including demonstrations of historical vehicles and presentations from local historians.
As Mödling continues to grow and evolve, the City Transport Museum serves as a reminder of the past, preserving the legacy of its transport systems for future generations to appreciate. This season promises to be a vibrant one, filled with opportunities for learning and enjoyment.
